Eastern Montana UFO Memories

UFO sightings in eastern Montana... memories by a resident that were sent in the other day (okayed to post, but I won't post their email here).

"When I was pretty little (probably 5 or 6) my parents and siblings were driving home from visiting friends late at night (probably 1130 or midnight). From Carlyle, Montana to south of Plevna which is a good drive ( 55 miles). My dad always liked to point out things he saw as we drove even in the dark ( usually the northern lights). For years my dad and mom talked about seeing a "giant grasshopper" in the sky that night. I always thought in my mind that they were talking about a flying locust or something but that's not what they said they saw. It was a light formation high in the western sky moving across the heavens. My dad said it must have been 40 or 50 miles away but he couldn't tell really. He said it must have been huge though for how high it was in the sky and visible so far away. He said it was shaped like a giant grasshopper and that the "legs" of the light formation moved and "scooted" across the sky until it disappeared.

The other incident I clearly remember was on a February night in 1976 or 77 sometime. I was like 11 or 12. We were on our way home from a basketball game in Baker to Plevna (a 13 mile drive). It was a very clear and very cold night. I remember the moon showing brightly behind us in the eastern sky as we drove west. We were busy listening to the radio and talking when I looked off to the south from highway 12 near the Butte pipeline station and there was a bright light as bright as the moon behind us shaped like the moon (which I thought was really wierd). I watched it for a few minutes when it suddenly flipped over on its' side and then it became cigar shaped or like a flat edge of a coin. I kept trying to get everyone's attention in the car and finally succeeded and we just watched it. It was about a mile away maybe perhaps more but it seemed to be going the same rate of speed as the car at least it appeared to do so. We drove another 5 or 6 miles when we approached the crest of the hill to descend into the valley home when it like lightening shot down out of sight into the valley. It gives me the chills to remember it. As we came into town we could see "it" bright in a field about a mile or so away outside of town. It would go on and off (the light). I mean it would light up and then go dark and suddenly different colored lights would come on and go round and round it reminded me of a top that kids used to play with. we watched this thing for 20 minutes maybe and then it went dark and my dad drove us home and said he was going to see if he could get a closer look. I never asked him until a few years ago what he saw. He told me he got half way out there and wondered what the hell he was doing driving in the dark to see who knows what and turned around."
